Race Preview: #52 at the TSI Harley Davidson 125

Posted in #52 WMT on May 27, 2011 by Doug Coby

When: Tonight!

Where: Stafford Motor Speedway

Series: NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Race #3 of 16

Car: The 1952

Laps: 125

Qualifying: Time Trials – 2 laps (we hope!)

Thoughts:

It’s been almost a month since our last race, and it’s definitely great to be back at the track to try to get back some of what we missed out on after our wreck on lap 83 of the Sizzler. After winning the pole, running third until the accident, and then seeing the cars we were running around finish 1st, 5th, 2nd, and 3rd…well, I’m no math major or probability expert but I think we at least had a great shot at a top 5 finish. So what broke? We aren’t 100% sure but we think the lower control arm/caster bar on the right front suspension snapped, and I guess that could’ve been the vibration I was feeling for the 60 laps before it broke.

When things like that happen, all you can do is come back for the next race and try again, so we’re back with the same car, the “1952″, and everything is back just where we like it. While there’s no guarantees we’ll be as fast as we were at the Sizzler, Kevin certainly knows how to set up a fast car for Stafford.

Tonights race is only 125 laps so that will definitely make it interesting for pit strategy. Will we stay out for all 125 laps? Will we pit? How many tires will we take? Lets just say that at this point anything is possible and we are going to wait and see how the race unfolds before we make our decision. I just told Kevin that it’s 100% his call, so catch up with me after the race to find out if it was the right one!

Hopefully we’ll roll outta here in one piece tonight with a win or a solid finish. After this week, we are off to Star Speedway in Epping, NH with Wayne’s #52 for the 125 lap open show on June 4th.

Waterford Post Race Comments: Second Place Sucks

Posted in #20 VMRS with tags , on April 6, 2011 by Doug Coby

Yeah the title of this post pretty much sums it up, but all in all the Budweiser Blastoff at Waterford was a pretty good race for the #20 VMRS team…well laps 1-85 were pretty good, and laps 86-100 not so much.  Continue reading

Race Day Thoughts: Waterford Budweiser Blastoff

Posted in #20 VMRS with tags , on April 3, 2011 by Doug Coby

I guess some things never change, but this time a new rule change on the VMRS has seemingly worked out to our team’s benefit…imagine that! After much discussion for who would draw our qualifying number to determine our heat race starting position, I finally caved in and let Bubba go pull the number from the VMRS trailer. When he came back and yelled “Good luck! 43!” my first thought was “That’s typical of this team…starting last in the last heat race.” Continue reading
